ELECTRICITY

(To the Editor)

Sir, —I note you recently Reported that Mr Toogood had elsewhere advised the more extensive and general use of electricity. Methinks it would have been of jmoro'interest to Nelson if he ' jhad urged ( our Council to reduce its oxqes-1 aSvp charges for lights, power and heat. Rb the latter, the price asked is double vvha’l some other cities charge and for only just one-third of the lijpe for which the" electricity is on. Plumbers say if the price and terms were reasonable many would avail themselves of thus getting hot water. But now the thing is simply ruled out. It is not all beer and skittles that the Council makes a profit whether the peopla-use electricity or gas. The Council can say: “Heads I win, fails you lose.”—l am, etc., SIMPLY A WELL-WISHER. , P.S. —Mr Lock says the works are a splendid paying concern. That is the strongest answer to his letter why there should bo a reduction.

S.A.W.-W,
