THE LAND QUESTION

(To the Editor)

Sir.—The whole community in which your paper circulates is indebted to Mr Robert Pattie for the very fine series of historical articles relating to the life and work of our pioneers in this province which lie has recently contributed to your columns. It is quite safe to say that many hundreds of people have read them with great appreciation and found them most inspiring, and like Oliver Twist/“want some more.” Mr Pattie's latest contributions on the land question to my mind are equally valuable. His outspokenness on this all important subject should have the effect of making people do some thinking for themselves. I havo great pleasure in stating that I heartily endorse the sentiments expressed and the principles enunciated bv Mr Pattie. His exposition in your last evening’s issue is the best I have read for many years, and I strongly recommend those who may not have had time to read it or have overlooked it to see that iuesday s “Mail” is put on one side until they have time to read and digest Ml' Pattie’s very valuable contribution on this very vital matter. I don t want to appear too fulsome in praise of the work Mr Pattie is doing, but those who remember my own utterances and writings on the same subject some years ago will riot be surprised at this short letter of appreciation. May I say in conclusion that if the same declaiat.on of principles regarding our relationship to our mother earth was being made just now in our schools, press and pulpits as laid down by Mr P..ttie, the coming Parliamentary election would be „l,e to b» remembMedj-^anb^, Nelson, 7th August.
