PREPARATION FOR NATIONAL

MEETING (By Telegraph.--Special to “The Mail”, CHRISTCHURCH, 7th August. At Riccarton to-day Beau Cavalier covered a niile by himself, taking 1.57 4-5, but he was not doing his best. Brigadier Bill (A. E. Ellis) and KilI burn (Jarvis) were associated in a school over six hurdles. The pace was on all the way and both horses jumped well, Brigadier Bill showing to better advantage than his mate/ Red Fuchsia took 1.54 for a mile, carrying a big’ weight, and Peneus, under similar conditions, ran seven furlongs in 1.36 2-5. Both these horses look in capital order after their racing on Saturday. Rhoboro (J. Tilson) and Puriri Jack (A. J. Peart) started for a school over the fences on the course proper. They

Royal Land was in front early, hut dropped out over a furlong from the post, and Solferito fimslied up the winner a length and a half in front of Malmsey, with Waterlow, Royal Land and Uproar following, at intervals.
