HAIL STORM
■ I » \ DESTRUCTION IN NORTHERN BAVARIA FORESTS FLATTENED OUT CROPS AND ORCHARDS DESTROYED United Press Association—By Eleotrio Telegraph—Copyright. Australian Press Association BERLIN, 6th August. An amazing.hurricane and hail storm, of only five to ten minutes’ duration, left parts of Northern Bavaria like a battle area. In dozens of villages hardly a roof or a window was left. Whole' areas of forest were flattened. For instance, in Erlangen alone 2000 Well-grown fus wei'e snapped off or looted up. The grain harvest in many places was destroyed, and orchards were stripped. The railways were strewn, with fallen trees and telegraph poles. The express from Hamburg to Munich was actually brought to a standstill by the wind. Thirty windows of the carriages were broken by hailstones as large as pigeon eggs. .Several factory chimneys, including one 200 feet high, were blown down. A new assembly ball was demolished, and the streets ‘were so littered with debris that it was difficult for the fire brigade to reach distressed people.
