IMPROVED SHIPPING SERVICE

The re-establishment of the former cargo and passenger service between Tasmania and New Zealand is announced. A cargo steamer will in future call at Hobart from New Zealand every six weeks, instead of three months, which is likely to result in a considerably greater volume of trade in Tasman-j bin timber with New Zealand. A distinct improvement in passenger facilities is anticipated should the Tasmanian Government induce the Commonwealth Government, to grant exemption fropi the Navigation Act to New Zealand vessels trading with Melbourne and Hobart, and vice, versa. Efforts in this direction are being made both at Hobaft and Melbourne.
