United Press Association— By Eleotrio Telegraph—Copyright. "Times" Cables.
LONDON, sth August, "The Times" Athens correspondent reports that five brigands, taking advantage of a bridge amidst hairpin bends on Yannina road, ambushed a motor car containing the Progressive Party's candidates Milonas, siotis, ex-deputies, and also Melas's secretary returning from an electioneering tour in adjacent villages. The brigands, despite a police post two miles away, presented rifles and took their victims to the mountains.
They released Chassiotis and the secretarv and are demanding a ransom of £13,000 for the remaining two, warning them that there will be no mercy if the authorities are informed. Apparently the ransom will be paid before the brigands are pursued. Venizelos expresses disgust at the outrage, but contends that brigandage, which he promises to extirpate, is a legacy from former lax government.
