EARLY NELSON
(To the Editor) Sir.—l beg to make a personal explanation. 1 rushed my uncompleted' notes into print last week for a par-ticular-purpose. I did not do so to draw attention to the neglected state of the cemetery. Let the person pick up stones and begin, to throw*them who can virtuously say that they know of the conditions of their great-grandparents' graves. A young girl on reading my contribution to y«Sr Saturday's issue exclaimed, "Why, my great-great-great aunt is buried there," and that was a perfectly true statement. The spot i$ more historical in its present state than if planted with trees and shrubs. The, sunshine lias bathed it for over 80 years. AH that is recpiired to mark (his sacred spot now is a fence to surround it; an obelisk with the names known recorded on it; a sign to direct the way and the, historical trees left. Surely this would be, little fof the community to do for those who started "on the trail" but had to rest on the way. I am pleased that my notes have interested your readers. —T am, etc., . ' JANE A. BOND. Nelson, 6th August.
