The Nelson representative,, team journeyed to Takaka on Saturday morning to play their annual home and home game against the Golden Bay-Motucka team. After ail uninteresting game Nelson were soundly defeated by 27 points to_ 3. In the first half, playing against a strong southerly wind, Nelson held their own, the score at half-time being o—3 iii Bays’ favour. However, the wind dropped and’ Nelson, especially the backs, went all to pieces, Bays piling on 19 points, while Nelson failed to increase their score. \V. Snow captained the Nelson team, while J. Clark acted in a similar capacity for the Bays. DETAILS OF THE FT, AY Nelson lost the toss and Thompson kicked off for Nelson. The blue forwards at once assumed the offensive, but Bays defended soundly. A penalty to Nelson and Young found touch in the 25. Bays sent them back with a, lofty kick, which Rogers secured and safely piloted into touch. Bays kicked high, and Clark fol lowing fast gained possession and found touch in tiic blue 25. The Bay hacks made vigorous efforts to cross, two knock ons by Wilkes ‘spoiling their efforts. Then Stevens secured and made a poor attempt at a “pot,” Nelson forcing. Clark secured from the kick out and looked dangerous. Blues retaliated and Wells was nearly away. Browns set up a determined attack,ithe ball going from Holyoake to' 'Callaghan to Scott to* Wilkes, who dropped the pass and Nelson forced. After'the'kick out Bays came again, Clark making a great run. but Thompson secured and found the line. Fowler, the Nelson half, made one of his characteristic dashes up the fie d, but was unsupported. Then Rogers made a weak kick, but retrieved the position soon after with n good line kick. After a good rail. Clark was collared by Rogers. 'At this stage Barrett retired with an injured ankle, his place being filled bv Max.

Bays set up a, hot attack, Phillips stopping with a smart mark. The Nelson forwards swept up the field, W. •Snow trussing the line and apparently scoring a try, which was not awarded. Nelson hammered away, Wells being nearly over. Young missed with a p’enalty kick, then Watson nearly scored. Bays were kept busy defending, and Cross from a penalty just missed by inches, and half time sounded with Nelson attacking strongly. On resuming the wind had dropped and the sun bad become obscured, butBays at once attacked, rWilkes and Holyoake being prominent. From a penalty Clark sent the ball over with a grand kick. Bays 8, Nelson 3 Bays came again and a great struggle near the line ensued. Kenning cleared and took play well down the field. The Bay backs secured and Stevens scored a great try with : the Nelson backs all out of position. Wells relieved with a' good run down the line. Bays came again and Bgnsemann secured from-the'loose. He sent the ball to Wilkes to Clark, who scored under the posts and converted his try. Bays 16, Nelson 3 Blincoe carried’ the ball with a good dribbling rush, but Rowling got away, only to be grassed by Rogers. Scott secured and ran through .to score near the posts, Clark converting. Bays 21, Nelson 3 Bays capie again, Watson saving with a smart mark. The blues took play to Bays’ line, Schwass being prominent. Bays forced down.
