SPORTING GUIDE" FOR FORBURY TROTS

At the Police Court, Francis .loseph Haywood pleaded not guilty to publishing a. document purporting to be a programme of trotting events at Forbury I'iirk. There was ;m alternative charge of circulating a document. The publica'.ion was '"Sporting Guido" with a list ot acceptors for the first day. Chief-Detective Cameron stated that the acceptances were given to the newspapers with permission to distribute to Association members, and the defendant had no right to copy and publish them. It was churned that this caused a drop of 739 in the sale of official books at the meeting. Mr Cameron handed in an Auckland publication which had been prosecuted and convicted.

Mr White, for the defence, stated that the Auckland publication had definitely suited that it was a programme, but. "Sporting Guide" did not. -People bought it as an indication of .Turf form. The Magistrate, in reserving judgment, stated that at present he did Dot think the publication purported to be a programme.
