MELBOURNE, 13th April. The cooks refused to man the Huddart, Parker steamer Werrihee until the Ulimaroa dispute is settled. The company has now four ships tied up. ARBITRATION COURT PROCEEDINGS PROBABLE (Received 14th April, 9.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The chairman of directors of Huddail, Parker Company states that the matter of the. cooks' vendetta against the company will probably be ventilated before the'Arbitration Court. A representative of the shipowners, referring to the I rouble, said the cause was unemployment on the waterfront. The Cooks' Union had many members nut of employment, and it was in an endeavour to' reduce idleness thatjhe union suddenly demanded an increase in the gallery staff. ]t is rumoured that the union would, it necessary, adopt a more militant altitude and* threaten to hold tip all colliers should the owners not comply with its demands for an additional cook for each vessel.
