WIDESPREAD PLOT
TO ASSASSINATE MUSSOLINI
ROME. 13lh April. The authorities believe that the Milan outrage was part of a widespread plot to get. Mussolini in the course of the. festivities. Milan was the scene of Mussolini's first political triumph. The authorities have sent a force of detectives from Rome.
The Queen heard of the attempt <>n her husband's life while staying at Castle Por/iano, on the outskirts of Rome. She immediately telephoned Milan, and held an endearing conversation with the King. The excitement at Boinc had not subsided when it was reported that a gelignite bomb bad been found on the railway line over which Mussolini's tram must pass from Rome to Milan.
