PEA-RIFLE FATALITY

An unfortunate occurrence resulting i;i the death of a school hoy named Louis John Wright, aged 15". son of Mr James Wright, of Roat man's road. Reef ton, is reported. The, lad, in company with Stephen John Cooper and Bernard F. Rogers went out with a pea rifle. They decided to have target practice arid Wright went away to place a piece of paper up mi a stump as a target. Rogers was to have lirsl shot and whilst Wright was fixing the target Rogers lay down on the ground with the Yifle in his hand. Wright fixed the target- and told Rogers to "go ahead," and then stepped hack from the target. Rogers then got into position to fire a shot, when the ride went off. the. bullet striking Wright, in the head and going right through the other side. The lad fell down, and his mates at once went for assistance, and Dr. Cordon was sent for, but the lad was beyond all human aid.
