LONDON ZOO'S NEW GJRAFPES DIET OF MILK A\'l> SWAT? A pair of voting Rhodesian giraffes, which arrived at the London Zoo recently, ron-nmed 2-lfl bottles of milk ami 3011) of treacle sugar during their tWHid-mile sea voyage to Southampton. They were slung ashore in crates 12lt high and placed on the lorry, which took them to London by a route specially selected to obviate passing under any bridges. The male specimen was slightly older than his female companion, bin neither exceeded two years in age. They stand about Hit Gin in height, hut when theytonoh maturity, •at the age of seven year:?, they will have added another 7ft to their stature. Mr E. Bowman, giraffe keeper at the Zoo. who supervised the transport arrangements from Southampton to London, was delighted with Ins new charges, which, he said, would augment the Zoo'rt complement of giratl'es T.o live, representing throe different species and four distinct families.
