Finally the Rector had acted indiscreetly. The li.-v. (). E. Uayden. in giving his evidence. denied any familiarity with the schoolmistress. 'lie explained that Miss Sharpe was temperamental and jumpy and had quarrelled with his wife. That day was the first occasion on which he had heard the charge of impropriety. The schoolmistress gave evidence denying the Rector's allegations. The Rector's wife aLo gave evidence to the effect that her married life had been exceptionally happy.
