Second Handicap Hurdles, of 150 sovs; one mile and three-quarters. —1 Gorzon, 11.12. 1; 2 Comedy Prince, 10.7. 2. These were the only starters. W<|i by live lengths. Time. 3.16. Juvenile. Handicap, of 120 sovs; five furlongs.--l Takutama, 9.0, 1; 3 Kimbo, 8.0, 2; 6 Whakaari, 7.10, 3. AH started. Won bv four lengths. Time, 1.2 4-5. Taru'heru Hack Handicap, of 120 sovs ; cue mile.—l Sandburr, 7.3, 1; 3 Royal Time, 7.12, 2: 4 Jen, 7.0, 3. Scratched: Alareria. Won by a neck. Time, 1.42 3-5. Trial Handicap, of 100 sovs; six furlongs.—l King Wanga, 9.7, and 2 Dreamy, 9.3, dead heat, 1; Fall o' the Year. 8.0, 3. Scratched: Kinsel. Won by a head. Time, 1.15 3-5. 'Gisborne Gold Cup, of 250 sovs; one mile and a quarter.— '-2 Atareria/8.9, 1; 6 Butterscotch, 8.0, 2; 3 Cohesion, 8.6, :•. Scratched: Superb King. Won by t-wo lengths, a head between second and third horses. Time, 2.8 4-5. Second Highweight Handicap, of 120 sows ; seven furlongs.—3 First Prince, 8.2, 1; 1 Kinsel, 8.4, 2; 5 Kingipita, 8.2, 3. All started. Won bv a neck. Time, 1.29 1-5.
Awapuni Hack Handicap, of 120 sovs ; six furlongs.—l King Willonyx, 8.7, 1; 4 Tan, 7.9, 2; 3 Rapiata, 9.3, 3. Scratched : Chelone, Takatama, l'Autumn. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.15.
Bright Memorial Handicap, of 150 sovs; six furlongs.—3 Epistle,, 9.4, 1; 2 Superb King, 8.2, 2; 1 Inner'' Harbour, 7.10, 3. Also started : .Teanette, Startle. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.14. Totalisator investments were £13,164, as compared with £13.645 on the second dav last year. For lioili days the amount invested was £23,586, as against £25.006 in 1927. TROTTING AT CHEVIOT CHRTSTCHDRCH, 4th February. At the Cheviot Trotting Club's meeting the Cheviot Cup of 100 sovs, two miles, was won by Hard Knocks, who beat Royal Authoress by a neck. Great Ando was third. Time, 4.46.
NATIVE CHIEP IN FORM MILE COVERED IN 2'MINUTES 2 SECONDS CHRISTCHURCH, 4th February. Native Chief was responsible for an exceptional work-out at Addington this morning- Ho passed the first half mile in 58sec, and the second half in lmin 4scc, making 2min 2sec for a mile. This was the fastest mile ever registered at Addington, and the horse pulled up well. The performance will add greatly to the interest in his mile match with Great Bingen at the Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting next Saturday.
