DEATH REPORTED
BRITISH EXPLORERS IN CENTRAL AFRICA
MR AND MRS GLOVER
KILLED IN FRENCH TERRITORY
(By Eleotrlo Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association) TENDON, Ith Feb. It is feared that the worst has happened to Mr and Mrs Clover, who left England in 1926 for the purposes of scientific exploration through the Central African desert. News has reached the "Daily Express" in a roundabout way that an African merchant at Manchester received a letter from an official at Maidujari, in Northern Nigeria, stating: "A runner has just come in with the bad news that Mr and Mrs Glover were killed in French territory." Tho Glovers' friends in London recently became most anxious because of the sudden stoppage of regular communications. The last letter came from Faya, in French territory in West Africa, 500 miles north-east of Lake Chad. It was written by Mrs Glover on 20th September, and was received by her sister at Croydon about Christmas. It stated: "We travelled over a waterless desert and were often 19 to 20 hours in the saddle. I am now 700 miles further than any white woman has ever been."
