BATTERED BODY
FOUND IN LYTTELTON HARBOUR FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED (United Press association) This Day. The body 'of a' iftan, believed to- he Charles James Mahan, of Nile'street,'' Timaru, wis 'found in Lyttelton harbour off Gadstone pier early this morning. It was badly battered, and foul play is suspected. Mahan was a slock buyer by occupation. Mahan's body was fully dressed and in the pockets were a motor driver’s license and' an insurance policy, but only threepence in cash. There were deep wounds on the nose, chin and back of the head. He was seen alive last night at 9 by some boys, being then near Gladstone Pier, and said he was catching the train back to Christchurch.
