HOSPITAL MATTERS

MEETING OF THE BOARD REPORTS AND GENERAL The monthly meeting of the Nelson Hospital Hom'd was held yesterday afternoon. There were present : jMessrs T. Neale (chairman), T. Hewelson, J. (!. Page. 11. G. Herryman, 11. Tutniicliff, J<\ \V. 0. Smith, H. F. Sjjers, and Mesdames MolTatt and Watson. REPORTS The house surgeon (Dr. Potaka) reported (in the absence of Dr. Lowe, who is on holiday) that 108 patients were admitted during the month, 92 were discharged, leaving 76 in the institution. The matron of the M.otueka Cottage Hospital (Miss Darkin) reported that five patients were admitted and five were discharged. Arising out of the report, it was resolved that the next meeting of the Board be held at the Hospital, Motueka. The master of the Alexandra Horne forwarded his report, which was adopted. There are 24 inmates in the home, with four vacancies. The relieving officer (Mr H. Kidson) reported that 12 families had been assisted during the month, £26 14s having been granted in rations and fuel. The report of the Town Committee, dealing with several matters referred to it at the last meeting, was adopted. GENERAL It was resolved to thank Messrs Stiles and Co. for printing badges for the Hospital day collection. The Director-General- of Health notified that the Department was making arrangements to prepare plans and specifications for the new house for the resident surgeon, together with an estimate of cost. Two circulars from the Hospital Boards’ Association dealing with midwifery and maternity training and a post-graduale course for nurses were received. The Director-General further notified that the present house occupied by the resident surgeon could be utilised as quarters for the night nursing staff. It was decided to call for tenders for the purchase of a property at Beachville.
