VETERAN’S BIRTHDAY

TIIE REV. GEORGE BOND i The Rev. George Bond, of Auckland, celebrated his 80th birthday this week. Mr Bond was horn in the county of Durham, England. After three years gaining for the Methodist ministry he fame New xealhhd “UrnViAg^at”Auckland in the ship Warwick with the Rev. T.' G. Carr on 9th February, 1873.' Mr Bond has filled many high positions, being elected president of the conference in 1892. After serving His church in many leading circuits he retired from the pastoral work in 1915, when he was appointed general treasurer of the home mission and Church extension department,, a position which he still retains. He also held the position of secretary and treasurer of the' Mission Property Trust. ’ * ' v Mr Bond’s interests have always been wider than those of his own domination arid for more than half a century he has taken an active part in social, educational, and philanthropic movements. He is at present vice-president of the British and Foreign Bible Society, a post he has held for a number of years. He is also a vice-president of the Society for the Protection of Women and‘Children. Mr Bond is enjoying the best of health, says the Auckland “Herald.”
