CONCERT BY TEACHERS At the conclusion of last week’s series of 'general lectures at the School of Music, the teachers gave a short but hnieh appreciated concert. The firstpart ot' the programme consisted of a pianoforte solo,. "Aragonaise,” by Miss D. M. Spargo and tiro vocal solos:—“The Arrow and the Song,” .Miss Wilkie; "The Carnival”, Mr Burtt ; "Hero in the quiet'Hills, ’ Miss Bagnall; and "Friend 0’ Mine,” Mr Longworth. The second part of the programme was taken, up with Gertrudo Jenning’s humorous one-act, play, “Acid Drops.” This was very well acted by the Ilawkes Bay members of the School and presented a realistic workhouse scene in which several inmates, Mrs Price (Miss Anderson), Mrs Taylor (Miss Gibbs), .Mrs Dent (Miss A. Pedersen), Alice (Miss R. Pedersen) and Mrs Gilbert (Miss Butcher), gossip, philosophise and show a very lively interest in the romantic attachment between Flora Cavan (Miss Boyd) a philanthropic parish worker and Noel Cuthbertson (Mr Nightingale) the parish curate.
Mrs Price was the unsuspected ‘villain’ of the play, and the act ended dramatically with the discovery of the stolen acid drops in Mrs Price’s pillow case. ' Those taking part are to lib congratulated on. their fine performance and it is to lie hoped that another such concert will follow shortly.
