NELSON’S "FRONT DOOR”
(To the Editor) Sir'lt was very gratifying indeed lo notice that the filling in of the mudflat from Halifax street to Auckland Point was shortly discussed in the Council on Friday night.- It looks as though something was really, going, to be done, iifid'VtHiiti efforjtaVVm this direction' are beginning td'b'Sir’some sort of fruit, even if it is windy fruit. The trouble is there is far too much talk as a rule. What’s wanted here is not talk but sane and prompt action. For some years now the “Mail” and its various correspondents have been advocating this jnost imperative and much-needed improvement—the provision really of a, decent “front, door” to the city, and in po doing I fear some of ns have not. added to our popularity; This is a little place where the ordinary person who ventures upon the discussion of public. matters, m print or otherwise, does so at considerable risk. He is supposed to he nothing, to do nothing and to say nothing, ’ and to carefully wheel his own wheelbarrow, with his eyes on the ground and not upon tho stars. However, we shall not bo deterred, we shall carry on, and in time our . efforts will he crowned with success. —I am, etc., PROGRESS. Nelson, 14th Jan.
