PORK SUBSIDY
ALLOCATION TROUBLE (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, 13th January. The allocations of the subsidy promised by the Government on the export of 'pork is proving somewhat awkward owing to the difficulty of ensuring that the assistance given will be received directly or wholly by the producers. The subject has been discussed between the Minister (the Hon. 0. J. Hawken) and the officers of his Department, but so far no satisfactory method of allocation has been decided upon. Just prior to leaving on his tour of •the Far North, the Minister had a conference with representatives of buyers of pork and the co-operative marketing interests! In the course of the discussion the difficulty of identifying the pig intended -far export through all the transactions leading up to shipment was gone into, and it is understood that the Minister now proposes to place before Cabinet a proposal that the siibsidy shall be paid per pig for export.
