MEETING OF COUNCIL REPORTS AM GENERAL The City Council met last evening at the Municipal Chambers. There were present: The Mayor (Mr W. J. Moffatt) and Councillors B. Watson, P. W. 0. Smith, J. A.' F>om the Local Government Loans Board sanctioning the raising of the Sands Reserve loan.—Resolved that the Town -Clerk be authorised to raise suf - ■ ficient money to meet outstanding debits. —lt was also resolved to inform the TaKuna Sands Association that the Council - proposed to place oth.er loan proposals Wore the ratepayers, when the Sands loan would he included.—Councillor Wigzell hoped that the Sands loan woiifd come on as soon as possible. ■ Prom W. Gould, requesting placing of seats at Bus stops-.—Referred to Works Committee for report. Bridge in the Maitai has also been large- "■' Jy used.—Gas: The extension of the mains to Brougham street from Waimea street and Trafalgar street is nearly completed. The, usual works returns are attached - hereto, also report on. supply for Tahuna—Water: The connection between the mains below the big dam has been made and tested. As soon as the rains come it will now be possible to • clean out both dams without interrupting the water supply.—Loans: Work has beea recommenced on the Rocks road removing the spoil to Kings Acre. The water supply for the Baths from the river is now available but not quite ' completed. , Regarding reserves, the Enginee'r, on the motion of Councillor Gibbs, is to report as to making further provisions for camping sites for motorists. Councillors made reference to the low « pressure of water in certain localities. It was considered that this was due to the use of the hose. An advertisement is to be published .warning citizens that unless reasonable care, is exercised regarding watering the restrictions will have to be imposed. Councillor Watson suggested that certain parts,of the city be allowed to use the hose at different times. The Engineer said this had been tried before, but had been found toryGASWORKS REPORT The gasworks report for the month showed:—Coal carbonised 336 tons ; gas manufactured per ten of coal 13,339 cubic feet; gas manufactured 4,492,700 cubic feet. Coal in hand 391 tons ; cokein hand 1383 bags; tar in hand, nil. Value of residuals sold during month £377 6s Bd. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER'S REPORT The Electrical Engineer (Mr E. plications 72 (3); Waknlw applications 24 (nil); total 2603 (41). Lighting load applied for 940 k.w. (12 lew.); heating load applied fur 1217 k.w. (10 k.w.); power load applied for 971 k.w. (3 k.w.): Tahuna load applied for 176 k.w. (3 k.w.); Stoke load applied for 65 k.w. (4 k.w.); Wakatu load applied f0r.31 k.w. (nil); total 3408 k.w. (32 k.w.). Peak load day 270 k.w.; peak load night 330 k.w. | intend to recondition ths transformers in,all (hat have been in service for four veins. The Mayor informed the Council that the Government had not yet published the amended motor regulations. -The matter had been before the executive of the Municipal Association, but the recommendations made to the Government by various local bodies had not been submitted to the executive of the Association. , _ . In reply to the Mayor, the Engineer said the construction of the Queen s road was nearing completion, ancl the survey and plans of the sections would be prepared as soon as possible. ' The Mavor and the Town Clerk were appointed "the Council's delegates at the Municipal Conference. The consideration of tenders for carting was deferred until the Committee meeting on Thursday next.' . ' Councillor McConclue said the time had arrived when the Council should consider covering some of the watercourses in the western portion of the city. He moved that the Engineer report on a scheme and the cost thereof.
