Nobody will ever cure the common cold, declared a Harley street doctor in connection with an American cable that £39,000 was given the University of Pialtimore for the study of the origin, nature and the possible cure of the common cold. The specialist added that the study was a waste of time. The common cold was caused by an enormous variety of organisms. Doctors could give only one advice —keep away from a person with a cold. The best form of prevention was not to catch it, and ihe best treatment was to remain in a warm, well ventilated room. The cold had baffled the best medical brains in the world.
