NOTHING CONFIDENTIAL

STATEMENT BY MR FRASER

WELLINGTON, 29th November/ It might be gathered that because the address of the Dominions Secretary (Mr Amery) to the members of the Legislature was delivered in secret session he spoke to them in extreme confidence, but apparently that was not.so. Speaking in the House of Represen- - tatives. to-night Mr Peter Fraser said £ that if the general public assumed that :;,, Mr Amery's speech had made any very great contribution to the knowledge of members of the House that would be a' wrong conclusion for them to draw. Mr Fraser said that while Mr Amery gave a fairly good summary and review of foreign affairs, he really did not think he said anything to the members which he would not have said to any publicgathering. Apart from the fact" that he . coordinated the information he had, for the benefit of the members, he did not think he hadjidded anything to the sum total of members' knowledge. That did not mean that his speech was not worthwhile or that the time had been wasted, but Mr Fraser said he did not think it would be wise for the public to get the' idea that he had said anything in the Hall of Parliament- that could not have been proclaimed from the housetops.
