WELLINGTON, Bth Not. A civic reception was tendered to the returned cricketers to-day. Apologies for absence were received from Mr Coates and also Mr F. Earle, president of the New Zealand Cricket Association. The Mayor, Mr Troup, spoke on behalf of the citizens of New Zealand, saying “Well done!” He expressed particuar pleasure at the modest bearing of the men we had sent Home a team of gentlemen.

At a Government lunch to* the cricketers Mr Coates stated that the Government had gone carefully into the .financial siide of the tour ahcl had decided, in view of the action of sportsmen who had made the tour possible and also because the team had done so well on and off the field, that the country should make a contribution of £IOOO towards the cost.
