MOTOR VEHICLES AMENDMENT BILL

FURTHER ALTERATIONS SUGGESTED ' TO EXEMPT SOME GOVERNMENT VEHICLES (By Telegraph) .From “Tha Mail’s” Parliamentary Reporter).

WELLINGTON, Bth November.

A number of amendments to the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill were introduced into the House of Representatives to-day.

The amendments proposed are for the purpose of reintroducing the exemption of Government and Ideal body vehicles from the requirement of being licensed under the principal Act provided they are used solely for road construction and road maintenance purposes. Vehicles used by private roading firms are also exempted provided they are designed and used exclusively for roading purposes. One clause exempts tractors and trailers belonging to harbour boards: There is also a clause aimed restricting as much as possible abuses in the use of dealers’ plates, which are prohibited from being used on Sundays or out of ordinary office hours. Another clause has the object of bringing the licensing year fbr drivers’ license's into line with the licensing year for motor vehicles so that a motor .vehicle owner may license his vehicle and obtain his driver’s license on the same day.
