MYSTERIOUS DEATHS
OF SOVIET OFFICIALS
(Received 28th Julv, 9.40 a.m.) BERLIN, 27th July. Newspapers from Leningrad contain mysterious reports of the deaths during the last three days of twenty leading Soviet officials. Each death notice included the words “Died in the service oi**he proletariat.” It is surmised tha(< they are the victims of a eounter-revo Jutipnaiy plot.
Simultaneously a fresh Soviet campaign of summary executions has begun. Forty-eight occurred last week according to some accounts. Otliei versions put (he number at 100.
