BUSINESS YESTERDAY MOUSE Of RO'RESENTA'nVES (By Tetegr&ph) (From 'The Mali's" Parliamentary Reporter). WELLINGTON, 26th July. The House ol' Representatives met at, 2.30 p.m. to-day. Mr P. Eraser (Wellington Central) gave notice of his intention to introduce the Wellington City and Suburban Water Supply Pill. Mr J. Linklaler (Manajyjatu) gave notice of intention to ask the Prime Minister if it is proposed to initiate an Empire settlement scheme on the lines of ilia! described recently in a cable appearing in lhe newspapers. Mr T. E. V. Seddon (Westland) gave notice to ask whether the Government

would consider the advisability of subsidising the production of Shakespeare's plays, it being important- to educate New Zealanders in these masterpieces in a similar manner to the Australian States. Mr Seddon also gave notice to ask

Mr 11. T. Armstrong (Christchurch East) gave notice to ask the Minister ol Health what the Government intended to do with the Travis bequest of £40,000 for medical research, and whether it was pro-posed to subsidise the amount.

Mr E. Bartram (Grey Lynn) gave notice to ask whether the State Advances Department had stopped making advances on loans up to 95 per cent. -Mr P. Eraser (Wellington Central) gave notice to ask the Minister of Industries and Commerce whether there was any justification for the increases that had been made in the price of coal by the Stockton Company and the State Coal Department. Tin's had resulted in an increase of 5s per ton on household coal in Wellington. Tin- Minister-of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. A. D. McLeod) said he had taken note of the matter referred to, and bad asked the Board of Trade officers to make investigations immediately.

Williams (Minister of Public Works) informed Colonel Bell (Lav of Islands! that tin: Government would consider legislation empowering local bodies to go in for road schemes on the lines of the Hutt road scheme.
