PLUNKET SOCIETY
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE REQUIRED
There was :i very good attendance at jthe monthly meeting of the Pluhket tSoiciely liejd iii Uie Waimea County Council Giunlx'i'. Arraugenjentfc wer'a iiuatJU iox Iho annual mooting, which iS 'to'bo lield iii the T;Js»tilule oil Wednesday, 15th June, at. o p.m. As there is a good deal of important business to be discussed it is hoped thai all subscribers to the l'lunket Society as well as anyone else interested will make a point of attending. Nurse Pascoe reported on the Society's wuik in both town and country. Tlit! attendance at the Phinkef Rooms has ber-n large lor the month, but the work has been mostly the routine of weighing, etc.. as there has been very little sickness among the babies. In the country, Murehisou, Dovedale, Wakefield, Brighlwaler and .Richmond have been visited, and Nurse Andrews reports that the work' is progressing satisfactorily. Unfortunately Dovedalo is suffering from an epidemic of mumps and whooping-cough, and many of the. homes are quarantined. The funds of the Society are at present at rather a. low ebb, and immediately after the annual meeting something must be done towards turning the tide. When one considers I hat the report book shows that in the town alone nearly 2000 babies have benefited from the free advice of the Plunket nurses, the thought naturally arises that if those whoso babies arc now enjoying health and perhaps life itself through (he Society s efforts, would make but a small monetary expression of their gratitude, the Society would never be crippled financially." Many, of course, do so, but many do.not. It is hoped that ibis year' will see the list of subscribers materially increased. The small sum of 5/- (less 'than sixpence a month) entitles to membership, and of course larger subscriptions are gratefully received.
