THE SYDNEY TOURNAMENT

At golf, in the first round of the elimination contests between Australian teams to decide which will meet the New Zealand team for the Kirk Windeyer Cup, Victoria easily disposed of Queensland without the loss of a game. Victoria then, met New Smith Wales. Each side won two matches, but Victoria had an advantage of nine holes and will therefore meet New Zealand in the. final.

Whitton was in great- form when playing McLelland and was 4 up at. the ninth, eventually winning 7 up. Russell and Nigel-Smith had a most strenuous match, the latter winning 2 up on the last green. The Hearlam-isettingtou match produced brilliant golf, Bettington prevailing by one hole E. G. Schlapp was much too good for Dennett.

Results were: Victorian against Queensland: Whitton beat Clive Boyco 5 up; Russell beat Dr. Boyco 12 up; Headlam beat Hall 2 up ; K. G. Schlapp beat Gumming 1 up. Victoria against New South Wales,: Whitton. defeated McLelland 7 up; Russell lost to NigeJ Smith 2 down; Headlam lost to Bettington 1 down; Schlapp beat Dennett 5 U P\

To-morrow morning, in tho foursomes, Horton and Duncan play Whitton and Russell, ami Goss and Quin play Headlam and Schlapp. In the afternoon, Duncan plays Whitton, Horton. plays Russell. Ross plays Headlam, and Quin plays Schlapp." Both teams are in great form and brilliant golf and stern contests are anticipated.
