NOT ANTAGONISTIC TO CAPITAL STATEMENT BY LEADER TO AUSTRALIAN .MISSION (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian & N.S.. Cable Association) ( WASHINGTON, 7th June. Mr Green informed the Australian mission that the Federation of Labour was not opposed to piece work, which was left to the unions to decide. Some industries were working 90 per cent, piece work. The federation finds that strikes reduce, the membership of unions. It welcomes the increase of new machinery, having greater production, being unable to trace unemployment through its introduction. The federation does not believe in political action or legal fixation of wages, preferring co-opera-tion. It does not, want interference by the State when ( wages and conditions are being fixed. If is not opposed to* workers being stock holders unless coerced into buying. The federation is not antagonistic to. capital and employers, but is anxious aiways.,to co-operate with them, the aim'being industrial peace.
