A device for automatically regulating tyre pressures according to the road surface has been, patented by Mr' C. K.Welch j well known in connection with tyro research in England. The inventors idea i» to lower the pressure. when traversing bad roads and increase it when tho surface offers no bumps. In addition to an ordinary pneumatic tyre, each wheel of the vehicle is fitted with a cylindrical chamber, running circumferentially below the tyre, to the inner tube of which it. is connected Hy a. valve. Normally tho air pressure in the tube and the cylindrical chamber are the same, but when tho vehicle is moving over a rough 'surface ,the road shocks result in air, hoing pumped from the tube past the valve to the chamber, whence it can, only return quite slowly. Thus over a bad road the tyre becomes softer and the riding more easy. On a good surface, again the air gradually leak's back into the tube until a normal pressure is reached.
