The Fruitgrowers' Federation Conferonce opened, .Mr Brash, president, being in the chair.
The Hon. J." A. Young, in' the absence of the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. J. Hawken) attended and from figures supplied by Dr. ,Reakes reviewed the year, forecasting a hopeful future for the: industry. Addressing the conference himself. Dr. Reakes, Director of Agriculture, saw no reason why the markets should not continue satisfactory. The industry now seemed to be reaching its rightful position in the dominion. In regard to the need for reducing the cost, of distribution, the Department would 'assist where it could, though it was more concerned with production. The report and balance' sheet were, adopted. In view of the recognition that the Government guarantee could not continue indefinitely, a committee was set up to put a levy in action with the object of building'up a fund to help themselves.
