CHURCH OF EPIPHANY FAREWELL -AND WELCOME A most successful social organised by the vestry and Ladies' Guild of the Church of Epiphany lf> bid farewell to the Rev. W. W. Bedwell and Mrs Red well, who have been appointed to Kaikoura and to welcome Rev. D. Evans, who is Mr Bed well's successor, was hel ! in the Masonic Hall, which was filled with well-wishers, and the evening «'«s spent in a most, pleasant, manner with musical items, etc.

Mr C. Page, who has been a church warden for many years, spoke on* behalf of tho vestry and parishioners, and emphasised the harmonious way in which minister and congregation had worked during his stay here, and asked Mr Bedwell to accept a pocket wallet, containing notes, as a small token from the church people, and wished him every success and God-speed. Mr Bedwell, in reply, spoke feelingly and said he had always endeavoured to do his work faithfully and well, and emphasised the fact that no minister could really obtain good results without willing helpers, and in these lie had been particularly fortunate. lie also mentioned the good qualify and splendid work done by Mr and Mrs Chas. Page, and asked for the continued efforts of nil for his successor, the Rev. D. Evans, and in concluding thanked all present for their good wishes to both Mrs Bedwell and himself.

At tho conclusion of tli-j evening a bounteous supper was served by the Guild, followed bv the singing of For He's a Jolly Good Fellow, Auld Xanp Syne, and the National Anthem.

FARMERS' UNION The monthly meeting of the executive committee of the Banners' Union was held in Rees' Sample Rooms, when 13 members were present.

Outward correspondence was read and approved as follows:—To Director of Agriculture, applying for a farm school to be held in the Takaka district this winter, also applying for assistant-Ag-ricultural Instructor. To Mr J'. P. Hudson, M.P., asking for his support to try and help the farmers of the district in their endeavour to procure a farm school.

The following inward correspondence was received:— From Mr R. P. Hudson, M.P., expressing his willingness to support the efforts of this branch to establish farm school and appointment of agricultural instructor.

From Director of Agriculture in reference to appointment of instructor and stating that some difficulty was experienced in procuring suitable men for lli« position and promised to go further ic'''

the matter. From Director, Farm Division, staring that arrangements were being made for a farm school in the district. From Dominion secretary,, re orders on hand and enclosing copy of National Progress of Dominion'and other matters of general interest. From Mr W. W. Massey, president Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association, enclosing booklets explaining objects of organisation. The secretary was instructed to write the Dominion' secretary re refund of subscription on "Farmers' Weekly."

Accounts amounting to 10s for petty expenses were passed for payment. The secretary was instructed to write to Cawthron Institute for result c-f anaylsis of samples of soil taken in this district.

A recommendation was made that the provincial delegate to the annual conference bring up the matter of official organ for the Farmers' Union, "Exporter,"' t'6 be recommended.

A full report was given by -Mr C. P. Reilly (provincial delegate) 'on the Dominion executive- meeting. The secretary was instructed to wri'e to the Provincial executive, expressing the desire to have a lecture held it Takaka at an earlv date.
