In the United States last year, '3,388.000 cars were sold, and apparently 2,143.000 were withdrawn from service or scrapped. In other words, 63 per cent of the total sales represented the replacement of existing ears. This is the first time that replacement sales in the United States have exceeded the sales to new buyers, and marks an interesting development in the industry. Closed cars have increased in popularity, so that they comprise 74 per cent, of'the total production of motor-cars on this continent.
