CALERONIAN SOCIETY ANNUAL AIEETING At the annual pickling of the Motueka Caledonian Society, held in tRe District High School, about fifty members were present. The president (Mr C. B. Morris), who occupied the chair, stated that the activities of the society during the year were such that an annual report, he considered, was unnecessary. They had had a very successful gathering on New Year’s Day, from a competitors’ apd from a musical point of view; but owing to stringent times finances had somewhat suffered. In consequence the society had thought it advisable to hold a Burns’ Night. He expressed the hope that, with the promised prosperity to the district this season, a Burns’ Night would not be lost- sight of by tho execu-tive.-‘‘Caledonian societies throughout the Dominion were now on a firm foot-ing,-aUd he; thought, in the neap future, they would be linked together into a powerful organisation. and Thomson, the secretary was requested to apply to the Borough Council for use of the Domain on New Year’s Day. It was resolved (Mr Thomson and Dr Bathgate) that the president be elected delegate to the Motueka Progress

League. Ladies of the old committee and others present were asked to constitute the committee for the ensuing year. The Rev. Mr "King proposed that the ladies of the old committee he heartily thanked for their valuable help. This was carried by acclamation. The secretary stated that Mr. L. MacGregor, brother of the president, had represented Motueka at the Conference of Societies, held recently in Wellington. Hp was thanked for doing so.

EXECUTIVE MEETING At; a meeting of the executive, held later-in the evening, it was decided to appoint Mr L. MacGregor delegate for the Motueka Society, and that Mr Hannah (secretary of the Wellington Society) be advised accordingly. A provisional programme committee, consisting of the president, Dr. Bathgate, and Messrs J. T. Brough and J. Thomson, was. set up to draft a programme in connection with next New Year’s Day gathering.
