MAIZE PRODUCTION
’ GISBORNE MERCHANTS INDIGNANT ' (United Press Association) GISBORNE, 6th June. The Gisborne grain and produce merchants express indignation at what they consider a wrong basis with reference to the cost of rnaize production arrived at by the special committee of the New Zealand Grain, Seed, and Produce Merchants’ Federation, appointed to make representations to the Tariff Commission. The committee, considering the importance of the pork and poultry industries recommended a reduction on the present import duty on maize. The, Gisborne merchants consider that the estimates quoted support a recommendation for a reduction.
