RAILWAY EXTENSION INAUGURATED

WELLINGTON, This Day.
The Hutt Valley railway extension, opening up the new suburban'settlement and bringing it within easy reach of the city, was formally inaugurated yesterday by the Premier and Minister of Public Works. Mr Coates. drove an engine through the tapes at Woburn Station in the presence of large crowds. In subsequent speeches it was pointed out that the sale of land in the settlement paid for the line, which the Premier said would eventually be a double track, and electrified.
