ALFONSO'S ACCESSION
NATIONAL REJOICING
LONDON, 17th May. Nation-wide celebrations were held to mark the 25th anniversary of the accession of King Alfonso to the Spanish throne, says a message from Madrid.
Religious services, concerts, and balls took place throughout Spain. The King lias refused to receive pergonal homage, and has requested thai any funds subscribed should be devoted to the construction of a university in a town near Madrid, as a permanent memorial.
His Catholic Majesty Alphonse (Alfonso) Leon Ferdinand Marie Jacques Isidore Pascal Antoine was horn at MacTKfl on 171 K May, 1886. His father, Alfonso XII., having died on 25th November 1885, he was king from the moment of his birth, but his mother Queen .Marie Christian, acted as regent until he v came o'f age at TfT'in 1902.
