The deatli occurred yesterday morning of Mrs M. L. Richmond, wife of Mr F. H. Richmond, of “Turama,” Wakefield Quay. Deceased, who was a member of the well-known Seymour familv of Marlborough, had been a strong adherent- of the Cathedral, and at the services yesterday feeling reference was made to the loss sustained by the parish. General sympathy will be extended to Mr Richmond and family in their bereavement.

Dp. T. G. Gray, Deputy-Inspector-General of Mental Hospitals, lias returned to Wellington from an extensive tour of foreign countries, where he gathered information relating to the treatment of the mentally defective. Dr. Gray, who included in, his itinerary San Francisco, Vancouver, the eastern States of America, , Great Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Norway, Sweden, and Cape Town, will submit a comprehensive report bn his observations to ibe Government before the approaching session of Parliament. While in England Dr. Gray selected three senior assistant medical men for the. Mental Hospitals Department —Dr. T. Childs, of the Ministry of Pensions Hospital at Huddersfield; Dr. J. Walters, neurological specialist, Ministry of Pensions; and Dr. H. Haves, of the Mental Hospital, Hanwell.

The remains of ibe late Miss Ruth Atkinson were cremated at Wellington on Saturday, when the usual religious ceremony was conducted. The ashes were brought to Nelson yesterday .and were subsequently interred at the NUson cemetery, the W.C.T.U. service, under the direction of Mesdames F. W. O. Smith, C. Moves and R. Watson, being carried out. A number of beautiful floral tributes were sent, among them being one from tho Nelson branch of the W.C.T.U., of which deceased had been long connected <and was president at the time of her death.

A Sydney Press cable reports the death of the Rev. Thomas Davies, a noted Methodist minister. He arrived in New Zealand from England in 1879 and later went to Australia.

The death occurred on Saturday of Henry Davies O’Callaghan, aged 88. He was formerly a farmer in the Huf.t Valley and Auckland, and later was Bills Clerk to Parliament.. He was a well-known angler and golfer.—Press Association.
