DEMONSTRATION FARMS
NOT FAVOURED BY MINISTER
(United Press Association)
DANNEVIRKE, This Day
The Minister of Agriculture was waited upon by members of the Southern Hawkes Bay Farmers' Union and the Dannevirke A. and P. Society, who asked for assistance towards the establishment of a demonstration farm in southern Hawkes Bay. The Minister gave no definite answer, but said Jie considered the present method of instruction by officers of the field division less 1 expensive and more beneficial than demonstration farms. In regard to herd testing he held out some hope of financial assistance being accorded the Dominion Herd Testing Federation. He said that the Government had no power to interfere in regard to an increase in the bank rates and he was in favour of a portion of the proceeds of the Howard bequest being devoted by the trustees to the Agriculture College at Palmerston North for research in matters regarding meat and wool. The Minister loft by train later for Wellington.
