PETER, POLLY AND WALLABY

This week we are mainly concerned with Pedro and Poppy. Here you see them in their tumble-down old dwelling. Poppy came in one morning and found Pedro immersed in the contents of a strange letter. "What is it?" she queried. "It's a letter from Spain," cried Pedro. "I hope it's good news," said Poppy. "Is it from your relatives?"

"It is," growled Pedro, looking very fierce. "My uncle, Don Pedro, has died, and left me his kennel in Spain. There are no other relatives, so I am heir to all his wealth. I am the last of the Don Pedro's!" And Pedro flew up in the air in a state of wild excitement. "Oh, dear!" cried Poppy. "I'd better fetch the doctor." She did not understand, and thought Pedro must be ill.

"We have got to go to Spain at once," cried Pedro, when he had fully explained everything to Poppy. "The letter says an aeroplane will take us." And then commenced a most furious bustle, while Pedro packed the bag. He kept repeating: "I'm Don Pedro, Prince of Peppermint," because is sounded so nice, and Poppy said: "Fancy you being so grand." i .'..' ' <

Pedro and Poppy hurried off to the aeroplane station, and found an airman all ready to start. Pedro presented his letter. "I am the great Don Pedro," he announced grandly. "I don't think much of you," thought the airman, "but my orders are to take you to Spain. Jump in," he added aloud.. And Pedro and Poppy accordingly boarded the aeroplane and set off.

• Away flew- the 'plane With Pedro and Poppy looking over the side. "There's Polly, Peter and Wallaby's house down the road," cried Poppy as they passed over. "Look, they are in the garden." "I sec them," growled Pedro. "This will frighten them." And he dropped a weighted letter down, and watched it fall swiftly'to the Chums.

It was just as the Chums were wondering who was in the strange aeroplane that the letter landed plonk! among them. Of course it made them jump, but they soon recovered and opened the letter. "Beware!" it read. "Beware! when I return!—Signed: Don Pedro, Prince of Peppermint." "Well, that's funny."'said'Polly. "I wonder what it's all about?'' "And who is the Prince of Peppermint," asked Richard. 1 expect they will soon learn later on, don't you.'
