INCREASE IN POPULATION

SYDNEY, 3rd Jan
An official report shows the population of the Commonwealth at 30th September last totalled 6,076,432, whereof 3,104,821 were males and 2,971.611 females.
In Tasmania and Victoria females predominated. The increase for the year was 118,512.
New South Whiles increased hy 49.575; Vietoria by 26,571; Queensland by 21,060; South Australia by 15.807. Other States showed small increases.
Since the 1921 census Australia's population hits increased by 640,698, whereof 70 per cent, is excess of births over deaths ami 30 per cent, excess of arrivals over departures., The increase represents an average rate of slightly it hove 2 per cent, per annum.
