During the Christinas holidays had weather was experienced in Poverty Bay. Rain IVII consistently throughout Saturday and Sunday. Rivers and crooks in the Waiapn district are running high. Cars experienced difficulty in getting through to Ruatoria, and further north 'motor Irallie between Gisborne and Mot.u is impossible owing to the bad'Mate" of Otoko hill.
Rough seas played havoc with the
hulk of the Monown i, which was sunk recently to form a breakwater at Whnreongaonga. Light but wetting rain was experienced throughout almost the whole of the holiday season in Hawkes Bay, with only short intervals between showers. In consequence the cricket mutch between the Auckland, touring team and Hawkes Bay had to he postponed. It was found impossible to proceed with the tennis championships at Hastings. However, a successful athletic meeting was held at Napier. There were good entries in the running, cycling, wnodehopping and sawing events. Evening festivities were abandoned as the rain continued.

BLENHEIM, This Day Heavy driving vain fell throughout the holidays spoiling all outdoor' plans. Rivers were high and caused anxiety for a while. Crops everywhere on the heavy land are reported to have been beaten down by tlioi heavy rain.

The weather over the Christinas was the worst ever experienced. Rain commenced on Tuesday night of last week and continued almost without intermission till Sunday afternoon, ' but fortunately Christmas Eve was comparatively fine. On Christinas Day there was a'continuous-downpour. A thunder storm on Sunday morning was followed by a fine afternoon. Yesterday was fine till 4 o’clock, when a heavy thunderstorm brought more rain. Today is tine, but dull, for the annual regatta, for which there are record entries. The ocean yacht race from Auckland was won by the Wairiki, with Queenie second and Ngatoa third. The yachts left on Christmas Eve and did not reach here till nightfall on Sunday. They experienced the full force of the easterly gale.
