CHRISTMAS AT THE HOSPITAL
BRIGHT AND MERRY SCENES
WARDS JOYOUSLY DECORATED The Christmas season at the Public Hospital was fittingly celebrated. All the staff co-operated in doing-what was possible to brighten the lot of the patients and to help them to forget their afflictions for awhile. The general public had subscribed liberally to the funds and those in ' charge, with the willing co-operation of all were able to make the first Christmas at the new Hospital a memorable one. The nurses spent a great Real of time in decorating the wards, aird they .succeeded in bringing to them a very "festive appearance. The Christmas service was conducted by his Lordship the Bishop of Nelson (Dr Sadlier), after which Father Christmas (Dr D. C. Low, medical superintendent) appeared upon the scene in person. Every patient received a gift and there was much merriment in the institution.
Free visiting was allowed in the afternoon, and at tea the patients were per-' milled to invite friends to dine with them. It was a great day for all, and if those who had subscribed to the funds could have seen the festivities they would have been doubly assured that their money had been well spent.
