While bathing in flic river Murray near Wentworth' a number of women got out of their depth. Mrs R. Poole, aged 25, Nancy Mcßride, aged 1(1, and Rose Whitford,' aged 15, were drowned. James Burls, aged 15, in attempting to rescue them, was also drowned. The victims were members of a large picnic party and the tragedy occurred in full view of the others, the victims sinking before assistance could he given.
