It is announced in the “Gazette” that as from the beginning of the month, Air M. Cussen has assumed the office of bailiff of the Magistrate’s Court at Nelson, while Mr A. .Chapman Williams has taken up a similar position at Ashburton.

The latest notification of appointments in the Police V,Force-state,s that .Inspector E. ; Murry has been elevated to the position of superintendent, while Sub-Inspector L.i E. O’Halloran. has been promoted to be an ' inspector. Senior-Sergeant J. Fahey has also assumed the position of sub-inspector, the appointments in each case to take effect from January Ist next.

The Rev. Dr. G. E. Weeks, of Sydney, is the'guest of the Archbishop and Mrs Ayerill, Auckland. Dr. Week’s, who was formerly Dean of Nelson, is revisiting New Zealand for the purpose of speaking at the United Convention at Cambridge .this week.

Memorandum from- the Nelson Hospital states that all the candidates who sat for the recent State Examination were successful. The names of the candidates are as followsAliss Grainger (passed with extinction), Aliss Eves, Aliss Fulton and Aliss Vercoe.

The only nomination for the position of producers' representative on the Honey Control Board was Air Robert Gibb, and he has been declared elected. Air J; A. Flesher, ex-Alayor of Christchurch, Airs Flesher, and party, are spending the Christmas holidays in Nelson. They motored up via the East Coast and leave Wednesday for Westport and Franz 1 Josef glacier.

Among those who succeeded in passing some of the subjects for the diploma in banking at the recent examinations were two Nelson candidates— G. W. Maunder (book-keeping and accounts and commercial and banking law) and P. R. Wilson (banking H). ACsitors to Nelson at present include Air A. R. Atkinson, an “old boy” of Nelson College, who subsequently won classical honours at Oxford. Air Atkinson was for some time secretary to his unde, the late Mr Justice Richmond, and for .the past 34 years has been a member of the legal profession in Wellington. 5
