CHRISTMAS AT THE MENTAL HOSPITAL

GAY SCENE IN PICTURESQUE GARDEN

Christmas was specially celebrated at the Mental Hospital on the evening of tlie 23rd December. All the staff cooperated to make the occasion a very memorable one, and this combined with Hie ready and generous assistance given by the public, gave great joy to the patients. The Christmas tree was decorated in the grounds which were brilliantly illuminated. Everyone in the institution received a present, and a good present, and the evening will live long m the memory of all. Father Christmas (Mr Stewart of the staff) caused great amusement. The staff, including the superintendent, were also the recipients of humorous presents from tlie patients. This added to the enjoyment of the evening. The Regimental Band enlivened the proceedings during the evening. At the Stoke Hospital, Mr Cundell acted as Father. Christmas. Dr. Hay, assistant-medical officer, and staff also receixved presents.
