IMPERIAL REPORT ON DAIRY PRODUCE QUICKER TRANSIT DISCUSSED QUESTION OF SHIPPING SUBSIDIES FUNCTIONS OF CONTROL HOARDS (United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A summary of the report by t lie Imperial Economic Commit too on Dairy Produce cabled to the Government, by the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs is now available. The Committee considers a reduction in the cost of production essential, and governments of dominions are advised to consider the advisability of uniformity of grading throughout the. empire. ' Carriage of dairy produce in refrigerated cars in all 'dominions ijft fiK)itwnmended. Ocean freight charges and the possibility of reduced periods of ocean transit are discussed. The latter depends on cost, and it is for the governments of the Empire to .say whether subsidies on adequate scale! to secure high speeds are worth while. United Kingdom markets ate examined and the functions of importers, wholesalers; blenders, retailers, and multiple shops are examined. Regulations of supplies is recommended. In this connection the report govs on to say : "If boards fellow the example of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board and limit activities to Ihe regulation of shipments and the gradual development of orderly marketing in the United Kingdom by such methods as quotation of prices to give a 'lead' to the markets, and not by speculation or fixing of prices, they will greatly contribute to the stabilisation of markets."
